Insurance Benefits for Mental Health
Most (but not all) insurance plans cover mental health therapy services.  Here are basics of coverage and costs:
Types of Insurance Plans
Most people with health insurance are covered by private plans they purchase through their employer such as state employees in Tallahassee who are often covered by Capital Health Plan.  Or people can buy directly through an insurance company such as Florida Blue or United Healthcare.  Some people have coverage through government plans such as Medicare, Medicaid and Veterans Administration.
In-Network or Out-of-network
The majority of plans today encourage or require members to use therapists that are in-network which means they have signed a contract with the insurance company to provide services at a negotiated rate.  A few plans will still allow consumers to use out-of-network providers.  Gulf Wind Counseling has joined the networks of most insurance companies to give our clients the best use of their healthcare dollars.
Copays and Coinsurance
Consumers usually have to share the cost of healthcare services through copays or coinsurance. Copays are fixed amounts that are paid at the time of service.  For example, many Capital Health Plans typically have a $20 or $40 copay.  Coinsurance is a percentage of the total cost for the service.  Plans usually have one or the other of these cost sharing requirements.  These amounts can be different depending on whether the service is provided in-person or through telehealth.
Deductible
Insurance plans can come with a deductible amount which is the amount of healthcare costs a clients must pay before their plan begins to pay.  For example, if a client has an annual $1000 deductible, the client is responsible for all healthcare costs until they have paid $1000 in total, at which time their insurance plan will begin.  Some plans with a low monthly premium have very high deductibles, so it is important to know what your plan offers.

In-Network Insurance
Gulf Wind Counseling is currently in-network with these companies, depending on the provider.  Call us for specific verification. We offer free insurance coverage checks through our insurance billing partner TGH Services.
